Youngest teen in 50 years makes PGA cut


Tadd Fujikawa, the pint-sized sophomore who turned 16 on Monday, stole the show from Hawaii's biggest teen golf star in Michelle Wie with an eagle on the last hole for a 4-under 66. That shot made him the youngest player in 50 years to make the cut on the PGA Tour.


Wie coping with a sore wrist


Michelle Wie has had a nagging wrist injury for the last couple of years, but this time it's enough that she showed up at the Sony Open with a bandage wrapped around her right wrist.
She described it as a "little injury" that happened at the Samsung World Championship three months ago when she tried to hit off the cart path on the 14th hole of Bighorn during the first round. Wie finished 17th in a 20-player field.

Webb wins third Women's Australian Open title


Karrie Webb shot a closing even-par 72 Sunday for a six-stroke win in the Women's Australian Open, her third national golf championship.
Webb, who began the day with a four-stroke lead over Wei Yun-jye of Taiwan, never saw her lead shrink to fewer than three shots at Royal Sydney. Webb finished with a 10-under-par total of 278.
Wei shot a final-round 74 to finish in second place at 4-under 284.
"Hopefully it's a good start to a good year," Webb said.


Irwin breaks 15-month winless slump


Hale Irwin won the Champions Tour's season-opening MasterCard Championship on Sunday, beating Jim Thorpe and Tom Kite by five strokes for his tour-record 45th victory and first in 15 months.
Coming off his first winless season in 12 years, the 61-year-old Irwin closed with a 7-under 65 for a 23-under 193 total to become the sixth-oldest player to win on the senior tour.


Quinney holds on to lead at FBR Open


Jeff Quinney survived the wildest day at the PGA Tour's biggest party.
Now the rookie is 18 holes away from his first PGA Tour victory.
Quinney shot a 3-under 68 to hold on to a two-stroke lead in front of a raucous, near-record crowd of 162,750 Saturday in the FBR Open.
The former Arizona State player and 2000 U.S. Amateur champion stood at 16-under 197 heading into the final round Sunday.


Woods, Federer, Henry announce deal


Keeping a beard at bay has never been a problem for Tiger Woods.
"I can't grow one," Woods said Sunday. "My friends razz me about it."
A few hours after finishing third at the Dubai Desert Classic, the American golfer teamed up with 10-time Grand Slam tennis champion Roger Federer and France soccer player Thierry Henry to announce a deal with Gillette that would put the trio in TV commercials around the world.

Goosen off to a good start


Retief Goosen took a one-stroke lead at the Qatar Masters after shooting a 7-under 65 Thursday in the first round.
Miguel Angel Jimenez and Nick O'Hearn each shot 66 and were tied for second at the Doha Golf Club.
"I think it was a fantastic 65 in difficult conditions," Goosen said. "But it is great to start with such a good score. Hopefully I can keep up the good work in the other three rounds.


Webb wins sixth Masters title


Karrie Webb shot a 4-under-par 68 Sunday for a two-stroke victory at the ANZ Australian Ladies Masters and her second straight tournament win.
Webb, who came from seven strokes behind Saturday with a 10-under 62 to share the third-round lead with fellow Australian Michelle Ellis, again made clutch putts to follow last week's six-stroke win at the Australian Open with her sixth Australian Masters title.


Howell finally collects another trophy


Charles Howell III just wanted to be in the top 50 by the end of March to give himself a shot at playing in the Masters. His victory at the Nissan Open did more than that, vaulting Howell to No. 16 in the world rankings and all but assuring him a tee time at his favorite course.

Fasth beats Garcia by two shots


Niclas Fasth shot a 2-under 68 Sunday for a three-stroke win over Sergio Garcia at the Mallorca Classic.
The Swede finished at 5-under 275 and Garcia, the 2004 winner, shot 68 to finish second in back-to-back years.
Jose Manuel Lara (67) and Marc Warren (70) tied for third, four shots behind Fasth.
Fasth, who won the Spanish Open in April, bogeyed the ninth but had birdies at the par-5 10th and par-4 14th.

Tiger easily gets sixth straight PGA win


Tiger Woods matched his longest PGA Tour winning streak Sunday at the American Express Championship in England as he rolled to his sixth straight PGA Tour victory. It was his eighth win of the year, making him the first player in PGA Tour history to win at least eight times in three different seasons.


New doping tests in play at Eisenhower


Golfers at the Eisenhower Cup which started on Thursday are subject to random drug testing after their rounds.
In line with its October 2004 ruling, the International Golf Federation began applying its anti-doping policy at the 70-nation Cup, the world amateur men's team championship being played at Stellenbosch and De Zalze golf clubs.
If a player tests positive, and does not have a therapeutic use exemption, he faces sanctions, and his team result will be recalculated.

Bean tops Eaks in playoff, wins Greater Hickory


Andy Bean won the Greater Hickory Classic
for his first Champions Tour title Sunday, two-putting for birdie
from 25 feet to beat R.W. Eaks on the first hole of a playoff.


Defending champ Lang wins Women's Senior Amateur


Diane Lang successfully defended her USGA Senior Women's Amateur title Thursday, beating Anna Schultz 1-up at Sea Island Golf Club.
